Because photos taken after the fact prove the damage exists, not when it appeared. AirCover, Booking.com and Vrbo all want verifiable, timestamped documentation, and a sealed scan from before the stay is what supplies it.
Since April 2026 Airbnb rules out AI-generated and AI-edited photos as proof of damage. BildProof photos are sealed: any later change, including by AI, shows up when the report is checked. Each report also carries a DGN timestamp, and Airbnb can check the photos are real through a link. Airbnb still decides every claim itself.
Once per turnover, while the property is empty: about two minutes a room. You can skip turnovers, but damage found after yesterday's scan is pinned to a single stay, and damage after a three-month-old scan is not.

eIDAS is the EU regulation (No 910/2014) that governs electronic signatures, seals and timestamps across every member state. That your report existed in exactly this form no later than the stamped moment, and that nothing has changed since. Under Article 41 eIDAS a qualified timestamp carries a legal presumption that the time is accurate and the data unaltered, so the other side has to prove otherwise, rather than you having to prove yourself.
